I fell in love with Shabd Simon-Alexander's amazing tie-dye pieces back when I first saw the spring 09 collection. Unfortunately, such beautiful craftsmanship, though I'm sure worth every penny, doesn't quite fit into the current budget.
Enter this tie-dye silk scarf I dug out of a basket of dollar scarves today at the Welfare League thrift. It made me think of the SHABD collection and these in particular:
"...hand dyed accent pieces, inspired by Hubble telescope photos of worlds being born and stars dying."
Now, what better to be inspired by?
And what are the odds of me running into a pair of these awesome leggings in a thrift store?

am usually not a fan of tie-dye, but these peices are beautiful, epsecially the first dress!
nice
I love that they're inspired by images from Hubble - that makes tye dye way more fun to me
I'm with Franca ... a lot of the "new" tie-dye stuff turns me right off, especially the jeans. But these pieces are glorious! And your scarf is equally subtle and lovely.
i was never much of a tie dye fan myself, but these are truly dreamy! i especially love the leggings... i wonder how difficult it would be to make them? hmmm...
wow! such amazing pieces! your scarf is awesome, what a find. good luck with the leggings :) actually you always seem to find gems, so i think it is possible.
Wow, all those dresses remind me of this one woman show that would set up all over my home town and sell her creations. I had a great Purple/pink/blue one until I got robbed in Mexico. LOL. I think the ones you posted are much more decadent as they look silk and the dresses look so one of a kind. I'm glad to see someone is bringing back the hippie!
What a lovely dollar scarf you have found! It makes me want to go check out the thrifting today! ;)
My goodness! I would love to wear the galaxy on my neck! What a collection. I don't know why but I adore that lady's hair lots in the picture. Thanks for sharing these cosmic master pieces!
Isn't it just the best when you find something for a song that you've been longing for but didn't want to spend a fortune on!!! Lovely scarf!
Oh! I want you to DIY the tie-dye and post pics....
Teeny

You know, Martha Stewart had a segment on how to tie dye leggings with her on her show! Here is the link on her site:

Oh I Iove those pieces! This summer I found a romper version of the first dress at the Salvation Army but unfortunately it was waaaaaay too big :(
Oh my gosh, that scarf captures the look entirely! & you could always make your own leggings...tye dye is so impossible to mess up.
i know right, ever since i first saw those ive been in love!
seriously good stuff. we should have a tie dye party.
I love how it looks more galactic than hippie... I would def. follow the tutorial you linked above... would like to try something sheer.
