Ooh la la...

Ooh la la...Sasson!

I’m kinda lovin’ these vintage Sasson jeans I found for a couple bucks in the kids section at the Welfare League Thrift (I find the best stuff in that kids section). I love how high waisted they are and the slightly cropped length makes them perfect for wearing with ankle boots or maybe lace-up oxfords and fun socks.

Is anyone else ancient enough to remember those old “Ooh la la… Sasson!” commercials? Oh, and of course this gem… see, I can’t be held responsible for what might happen while I’m walkin’ down the street in these things!

I also wore the 50’s folk print top and beaded belt I picked up at the flea market. I love how the perfectly matched colors make these two pieces unexpectedly wonderful together. Also, how great is that print with its folksy little lads and lasses surrounded by smiling suns, funny trees, wee houses and farm animals? Perfect attire for a fun event... a parade for example!

Yup, along with a group of family and neighbors, we trotted downtown over the weekend, me in my Sassons, to catch our local Rose Parade… as far as I know, no mailmen were thrown off balance in my wake ;)

Cheerleaders and marching bands were out representing the local schools in full force.

Horseback was a popular mode of transport, though I didn’t envy this dude’s less-than-glamorous job.

Whether they be chauffeured beauty queens…

Or a cable car full of old guys in hats…

Clover was stoked to wave to them. This was her first real parade experience where she was old enough to get into it and I think she dug the waving more than anything else :)

Although Clover was pretty wary of them (she would want to be held when they got too close), the colorful clowns were my favorites, along with the Chinese dragon whose golden parts shimmered in the sun as it wound through the streets.

Big Fish, Little Lady

On the way home, it was insisted upon that we pay a visit to the “big fish,” a pretty cool mosaic fish statue that sits at the entry to this previously blogged about trail, and looks to be jumping right out of the concrete.

We had a pretty fun day at the parade. Other weekend highlights included an authentic home-cooked Moroccan meal prepared by our friend Nour (a delicious treat!), as well as a trip to the feed store in hopes of bringing home some baby chicks...

As it turned out the breeds we were hoping to get wouldn’t be arriving for another week or two, so we held off on taking any home just yet, but I did get to hold one for Clover to pet. Soooo soft and cute and cuddly... soon, very soon :)

DREAMY! So loving your beaded belt and hoping one day I come across one thrifting. It's more fun finding one that way.

Ah yes, my pals and I used to say "ooh la la Sasson" over and over again back in the day.

And I want a ream of the fabric your shirt is made of!!

there's nothing better than a soft old pair of jeans...except maybe a vintage novelty print blouse with a beaded belt!
what is it with the kids sections at thrift stores? one place i go to consistently ends up with terrific vintage hanging among the kids' stuff, too...but i am not going to complain :)

I cannot believe that commercial. It is cute though how she ends up with her family :-)
