The leaves are falling, but it's still Summer
Kickin' back in the freshly fallen leaves of the curly willow on a hot Summer day, and though the Autumn-hype is in full-swing throughout blogland, yes technically it is still Summer. At least in my hemisphere it is, though I'm not sure our willow got the memo.
I'll admit though, while Summer is my favorite season and I'm sad to see it slipping away, the romance of Autumn dressing is a bug that even I've been bitten by lately, tough to avoid with my blogroll knee-deep in gorgeous fall collections, inspirations, and what-not.
All for another day though... because today was hot, really hot and muggy, and in no way a day for Fall layers, not even light ones, which resulted in the rather minimal outfit.
The feather tank top was found on the $1 rack at Community Thrift in San Francisco. It had a small stain on the front (probably why it was on the $1 rack) and I FINALLY got around to giving it a good Oxiclean soaking just the other day. Thankfully that stain was no match for the Oxiclean!
I made the cutoffs from a pair of thrifted jeans... girls jeans (they were like capris on me)... Mary-Kate and Ashley jeans to be exact, haaahaaa, that's a little embarrassing, but I liked their high-ish waist and thought the embroidered flowers were cute (they're on the back pockets too... sewn through the back pockets to be exact, rendering said back pockets unusable... WHY? you got me.)
But on to my favoritest item of all! This vintage camera case has been all but surgically attached to my hip since it's recent arrival in my latest glorious package of magical thrifty goodness from the ever-amazing Milla :D
Her package had the best theme too: "The Last Days of a Seventies Summer." So fitting, and complete with flowy floral dresses, the best floppy hat ever, and among other delightful things (sure to show up in future posts) was an early 70's issue of Good Housekeeping Needlecraft magazine! I thought I'd share some of the gorgeous images found inside :)
It's a Spring/Summer issue and the colors are more Springy than Fallish, but I did start feeling excited about the prospect of layering and wearing knitwear again as I was leafing through.
I kinda like this look of layering little crocheted vests and sweaters over collared shirts, perhaps something to try for Fall.
And the reason she chose to send THIS issue of several she had. Just imagine the combination of the above top with THESE pants!!! Ridiculous/awesome, right? I'm pretty sure the two must have been separated at birth.

That dollar rack is a dream, I have found some real treasures on that thing. My favorite being the 1960's real velvet blazer, I think the only thing wrong was a missing button, which I promptly replaced with one from my grandmothers sparkly stash which I inherited. It's so fun to see the things you got at my fave thrift store! that shirt it so cute, I'm happy that the oxyclean worked so well for you.
Wow, vintage Mary Kate and Ashley jeans can be cute! And that Raggedy Ann/Andy tunic is TO DIE I would snap it up in a second!!
ONE DOLLAR!!! Lovely photos as always, that little camera bag is gorgeous, I love Autumn too but we're heading into Spring here in Sydney and I love that too :-)
Classic! That Raggedy Ann and Andy smock top is a must have. Great $1 buy on that feather top too. C'mon fall!
Old magazines are the best aren't they. I love looking at all the pictures - might have to do a post on one sometime too! Sounds like a lovely package. The outfit is great too. Spring has sprung where I am, so summer fashion inspriation is quite appropriate :)
Yes, the pants and top *must* be missing eachother!
It sounds like you really scored on the dollar rack (it's a great gem in that store) I also noticed some really nicely worn in tees the other day, I guess I should try oyxclean, I've never used it before.
We totally got that artichoke bread too! I think we had the garlic artichoke one, maybe it was a little different but still really yummy. I used it for the yummy goat cheese we got at the farm. :)
I forgot to say that I got the kimono at community thrift too! It's actually the second one I have found there in a couple months. :)
Score on the top! I love the little shorts you made. I wish i had a body that lends itself to shorts, but unfortunately that is not to be! I also love the little camera bag, actually I love it all!
I love oxi clean!!
That is such a deal on the top- it looks like something you would buy at F21 now!
So glad you could salvage that tank - what a fab find!
Up until yesterday it has been summery here too, that blue flowered number is adorable and you have lots of time to knit b4 next year. :-)
Nice top!
I love flicking through old magazines, and this one looks like fun. The crocheted vests over collared shirts is a nice look indeed. Not sure about the knitted bathing suit though!
I just bought a knitted bikini, but that one is amazing. I wish I knew how to knit and had time to create such joys. Also the floor length skirt, so much work but so worth it.
Hold on...she creates themes for her thrift packages?! That is awesome.
That shirt is so awesome! Why don't I have a dollar (or euro...) rack here? Mh...sad :(
All those Seventies clothes are so pretty! The crocheted vests....I need one!
eeep! how did I miss this!?!?!? The feather top is a dream dream dream, and don't we all harbor a secret love of MK and A of yore, their twee days before they were cool. No? Maybe that's just me.
I love and covet like crazy your feather tank top! and some of those images are oh so gorgeous - the soft colors, that amazing caftan. trés inspiring, this post!
Great save on the stained top! How colorful is that?! Heard it's been hotter than Hades down there, cooling down up here . . . leaves are starting to fall, pears & apples in overripe abundance. Seasons are achangin'.
That tank is SO fabulous! I'm jealous you found it - not that I'm going to San Fran anytime soon. It seems like your West Coast thrift stores are far superior to our East Coast shops.
