April Showers
Our beautiful warm weather did indeed turn cold and rainy this week as predicted, but alas, all is not lost. This shift in temperatures gave me the perfect opportunity to wear the wool H&M dress I thrifted from the Salvation Army in Santa Cruz ($14). I really love how simple yet packed with sweet details it is: peter pan collar… check, covered buttons… check, wonderful pleating…
… AND hidden side pockets… check and check!!! It’s also in perfect condition. I’m at a loss as to why anyone would have wanted to get rid of it.
Loving my vintage woven leather booties from Milla! Not only are they cute, but they are SO comfortable :) Hehe, my toes got a little wet tromping around in the rained on plants.
The umbrella I just picked up for five bucks at a local Asian market and I think its tiny floral print is going to get me through these April showers quite happily :)
When I wore this on Wednesday it showered off and on and while I was taking photos, the toasty sun kept peeking out from behind the clouds only to then disappear again into the chilly gray. With the seasons still in transition, it was one of those days that several fashion bloggers seem to be sartorially frustrated by lately.
Speaking of which, I loved this post over at Sally Jane Vintage on how to utilize a short-sleeve sweater for just such transitional weather. Luckily, my new-to-me dress turned out to be a great transitional piece with the warmth of wool and it’s short length and ¾ sleeves keeping me from burning up when the sun did make sporadic appearances.
I’m also pretty pleased with this recent find, a creamy little vintage cloche for $3.50 from Hospice Thrift. I love vintage hats but often they can be hard to pull off without feeling too costumey. The simplicity and lovely shape of this one made it seem just right though and I felt totally comfortable wearing it :)

You're looking so wonderful in that H&M dress! I love the simplicity and little details too.
That dress does have lovely details - I can't think why someone would get rid of it other than not fittin into it anymore? Thier loss is your gain...
What a beautiful dress... being a bit older than you and... hmmm, pear shaped, I would wear jeans under that dress rather than sheer tights, but it's beautiful nonetheless.
I'd like a whole closet full of minidresses/tunics to wear on top of jeans.
What a great dress! I love the hat, too. It's perfect.
Love the dress and the shoes!
The hat and dress are BOTH just fantastic! Such great finds, beautiful.
i said it on flickr, but it deserves a second mention, this outfit is fantastic! you look absolutely perfect! great great post!
I gasped when I saw your dress - perfection to be sure! (I dream of making a dress like that, but it sure would be nice to thrift one instead.) The hat looks great too. Wonderful finds.
You look lovely. I like the colour of your tights :)
LOVE the boot, sock, tights combo - perfect!
This is really pretty, exactly something I would wear. :-)
As a new native of the state of endless rain (The Evergreen state is just a ploy to lure in tourists-it's only evergreen because of all the freaking rain!) I am deeply deeply enamored with this look. You are a style queen truly.
Love your socks peeking through the tops of your boots. such a cute outfit

Beautiful finds! Have a magic filled weekend! If you celebrate Easter, have a happy one!

I can't stop staring at these pictures. That dress is amazing, all the colours are amazing (charcoal wool with deep red tights and tan woven boots with a little floral umbrella?! I love it!) I'm especially enamored by your HAIR though... the way you've done it is amazing! That's totally bohemian goddess living on the road like your fantasy life is... simple but brilliant.
lovely dress

I thrifted a almost identical wool dress the other day! I think it's from the 70s, though. I'm just shortening it a few inches (it was below my knee originally) and then I'll be all set for the cold weather. :D
That dress is so beautiful!!
i love your umbrella.
my vintage one has decided that it now wants to collapse back into itself every time i try to put it up...very unfortunate.
however, the rain has since passed. yay!
i love the hat and that pic of you on the fence with you looking at us and the light hitting the umbrella, its beautiful!

I love love those booties!
I hate when your posts don't come up on my stupid blog roll list, but it's nice to come here and find a few waiting for me. Love the tights, and the little hattikins too!
I love the color combo
Perfect dress!
:)
