In honor of Mother’s Day I wanted to share this beautiful photograph of my mom. It was taken by my dad in a Massachusetts field of wildflowers in the summer of 1976. She was 24 years old and holding on to mine and my younger sister’s balloons as we gathered up unruly bouquets.
When I think of my mom, I think of her gentle soul, her natural beauty, and her seemingly endless reserves of quiet strength, how she dedicated her younger years so completely to raising my sisters and I, how she later dedicated herself so completely to caring for my dad as he was leaving this earth, how glad I am that she’s been able to find new life and love, and how blessed I am to have this wonderful woman in my life.
I love you mom. Happy Mother’s Day.
A pretty song for a pretty lady :)
Happy Mother's Day to all you gorgeous earth mamas!

Happy Mother's Day Gorgeous! I'm with Brigit on the legs...but also...I reckon you might be a very patient person too. have a lovely day. I had mine yesterday and it was wonderful, homemade crafties, cupcakes from the kids, and pancakes from my husband. Thank god he didn't let them make me breakfast!

And I am crying. So beautiful Missa! Your mother is gorgeous and this tribute to her is so, so sweet. Wow, such a young mother, so much love and care she has given over the decades. Love.
What lovely pictures. What a lovely post and tribute to a Mama who seems increidbly cool! Happy Mother's day to you too - she passed on her cool-mama status to you too obviously!
I have such gratitude to your beautiful Mama for bringing you into the world and raising you into the awesome woman you are. Good job Mom!
And there's such a resemblance between her former self and your current one, that picture makes me smile. Little did she know she ought to have hung onto every piece of clothing she had then.
So you just make sure never to get rid of anything for Clover's sake. Oh! I'm just picturing your lovely little Clover-kin all grown-up and decked out in our favorite dresses, dancing with 'lil Mycie to some crazy folk band of the future. I think I just misted up a little. (My thoughts are getting a little too expanse into the past and the future-I blame the Clan ;)
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's day m'dear.
So much love.
Wow, your mother was stunning! She looks like such a groovy hippie lady back then :) I can see how you wound up such a lovely, stylish mom when you had your own mother to look up to.
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. You just made tear up a bit!
What a lovely, lovely post! Those photographs are unreal, so beautiful, clearly you have inherited your lovely spirit from mom! Hope your Mother's Day was just as magical as that day in 1976.
missa, what a sweet post with beautiful pics!
hope your mother's day was wonderful!
Happy Mother's Day, Missa. I can see where you get your looks & gentle soul. Such lovely photos of your ma.
O sublime and magical photos! Thank you for sharing them with all of us :)
P.S. I say we mark the calendar and save our pennies and make a meet-up at the herbal symposium happen next year!
that first picture of your mom is so classic! how old were you in 1976? i'm just wondering if we are close to the same age, as i have similar pics of my mom in cut off jean shorts, and i swear i had a dress in that red floral pattern! (i was 4, btw ;)
thank you for the love you express so openly towards your mom...it inspires me to try as hard as i can to be that kind of mom for my own daughter. it also says a lot about the love that raised you. beautiful.
My word Missa- this is gorgeous... first of all, your quiet and gentle Mama is a total 70's BABE! And you were getting ready for outfit posts and blogging at such a tender age! hahaha. You look SOOSOOOO cute! (Not to mention, wildflowers is one of my favs!)
