Shadows and Stripes
Wednesday’s outfit included my new favorite striped shirt (Salvation Army, $2.50). Striped shirts are one of those items you see lots of at the thrift stores but it can be a little tricky finding really good ones, as there's often something off, whether it be the size, the fit, or the fabric. Everything was just right with this one though, and I love the grommets along the neckline. Nautical, classic, and perfect for pairing with this hat, which I can’t seem to get enough of lately.
I went on a jaunt down to Marin with Lucas’ mom and two of his sisters to hunt for a wedding dress. His mom is getting married this Fall and of course I was so excited to come along and help find the perfect dress for her, especially since we were going to look at the same magical little boutique where I found my own wedding dress seven years ago!
The dress above was beautiful and we all kind of fell in love with it on sight, BUT the one she ended up with was even better… it was one of those instances where she walked out of the dressing room and we all went: “Oh yeah, THAT’S the one. No question.” I wish I could show pictures of it but of course it’s a secret until after the wedding, it’s GORGEOUS though and she looks amazing in it. She even found the perfect jewelry to go with it, a very successful trip and lots of fun!
If you or anyone you know is in or around the Bay Area and looking for a wedding dress, Shadows (the website does NOT do them justice, btw) in San Anselmo is not to be missed, especially if antique, both the real deal and vintage-inspired, wedding dresses are your thing.
Also, if you're not about traditional, though they do have those too, it's the bridal boutique to visit and they have amazing deals. Ha, you'd think they were paying me, but no, I just know of so many people who have found the dress of their dreams there, it really is quite a magical place :)

There's nothing like a bit of nautical and the boutique sounds fantastic!
That wedding dress place looks wonderful. i wish there was a place like that here!
Oh la la laa, that boutique seems fabulous! There is something about a traditional white wedding dress that is just so nostalgic and appealing. Sigh
I love a good striped shirt.
gosh, that boutique looks amazing! If those dreamy dresses could tell their stories...imagine that.
I've never commented before, so Hello, I'm Lizzy. I got my wedding dress at Shadows, it's a great shop for finding something different. I live in Fairfax (just west of San Anselmo) and we have a vintage shop you should check out sometime. It's called Magpie and it's pretty cute.
:)
wowza! I wish we had a boutique like that here. I dream of a lovely vintage wedding dress someday. I've been keeping an eye out for one that seems particularly seredipitous lately

this is lovely frilly dress heaven! it's like confections and lace and peacocks and rainbows and glitter and buttercream and everything delicious and wondrous all put into glorious gowns...what a wonderful suggestion for those that want a dress that's full of old stories and love. i kind of want to check it out even though i don't need a dress...
you look great in jeans too! i love the striped top and i totally agree, it's a weird thing to look for when thrifting because there are TONS of them but usually they're pretty terrible to the point that sometimes you can accidentally overlook a gem. glad you found this one! it's perfect.
oh if I ever get married I want to get my dress there! I would be in dreamland with so much lace around me!
i die! i will definitely be visiting this shop. thanks for telling us about it.
Oh wow - is that a vintage wedding dress shop?? those look gorgeous - what's so lovely about vintage wedding dresses is that you can wear them to other occasions as well :)
I LOVE this hat on you!!!! The outfit is super adorable. I know what you mean about striped tops- they have to be just right- and they're not easy to find... you got a gem!
I'm so glad you mentioned the word "grommets" cause I just found a nautical tank for my Etsy shop and didn't know what to call those silly little rings (though I knew they had a proper name) :)
Hope you and Anne get to meet up this weekend- I'm jealous.... wish I coulda gone too :) Have fun!
you suit blue! sweet everything in this outfit, and i totally see why you dig the hat so much.
If my wedding dress wasn't hand made, I'd make the drive to a shop like this.
oh wow,
that shop looks amazing!
I'm so curious about THE dress of course, since the one above is stunning...and a better one? The suspense!
the one on the right in that first photo, LoVeLoVe
Oh that striped shirt is prettyyyyy!!
Oh I am already excited to see the dress you picked! I think it will be really hard for me to find a wedding dress someday since I already have some sort of picture in mind (ha, how weird!).
oh my word. i'm freaking out over that shop! it looks so amazing. when the day comes i may have to make a road trip! it looks as if i would want every dress they have!

Oh my goodness, those dresses *sigh* I must go there one day, wow!
wow, what a amazing store, I can't wait to get my own someday! I will definitely be hitting that place first! :)
WOW! Thank you for sharing about this place, how whimsical.
You are so right on about the striped shirts at thrift stores thing. They are abundant, but it is so rare to find The One. Last year I got a red vintage 3/4 sleeve tee with a small embroidered anchor above the left breast and a square neckline, and it fits perfectly. Hello Fourth of July!
I sure hope we're both still blogging when it's time for my wedding! I've dreamed of my future vintage wedding dress for so long. I'm sure I'll shop forever and buy at least two! Hmm, I wonder where my wedding dress is right now...well, I may one day be asking you to recall the name of this shop someday!
that little shop seems so whimsical! i want a dress now..
