The Curly Willow and The Magical Dump

Here's looking at you...

This was a 100% thrifted outfit I wore earlier in the week before the weather took a turn for the gray and rainy. Not to complain, since we are in a drought year and need to welcome all the rain we can get!

On sunny days, I’ve found that I have better luck taking outdoor outfit photos in shady spots, which is why, once its spring leaves sprung, I started setting up my tripod underneath our curly willow tree in the back corner of the yard. It’s a lovely spot enveloped by leafy branches and I like the way the light filters through.

Here’s the view looking up. I loved climbing trees as a child and this is a tree that was made to be climbed. I can just imagine all the future hours that will be spent by Clover scampering about up there like a little monkey :)

Dumpwear ;)

Would you believe me if I told you that the majority of my outfit was free from the dump? Well, it’s no joke. Both the dress (which I love) AND the boots (you already know how I feel about those ;) where picked up for me by Milla, my long distance thrift buddy and all around kindred spirit, at the dump on the little Pacific Northwest island where she lives.

Of course this isn’t just any dump, in fact, at some point we began referring to it as “The Magical Dump” and ever since reading her description of it in
this early wardrobe_remix post, I’ve dreamed of one day making a sort of thrifty pilgrimage, if you will, to experience this place for myself.

Yay for the tiny floral prints of the 90’s! Inspired by these ladies, I added a newly thrifted brown leather belt to the navy dress and even had several commenters on my w_r post mention the belt specifically :)

The very happy ending to this post is that we’ve actually begun planning a family road trip for the end of summer in which we'll be camping our way up through Oregon and Washington in The Duck with our final destination being none other than a certain small island off the Washington coast! I am SO excited at the thought of meeting Milla in person in just a matter of months and even more excited that we’ll be able to go “shop” The Magical Dump together!

* sigh *

We used to have a magical furniture dump by our old apartment. It made me wish we had a truck (although we made one great score). Yea road trip! Sounds lovely, you both must post pictures of your thrifty conference.

Wow, that dump does indeed sound magical! It's great that you get to meet your friend "for real". I did that, too, a couple of times and we've become good friends :)
Your outfit looks so lovely, it is so hard to imagine that people would give away those great things!

Im pretty sure you are speaking of the dump on Orcas Island. If so I have been there, and LOVED it. It was the coolest place to rummage around and see all the neat things hidden away in boxes and under other neat things. I wish I could remember what I got when I was there, It was a few years ago now. I lived in Seattle at that time and went to visit a friend on the Island. Of corse she took us to the magical dump. Enjoy your trip, the Pacific northwest is magical. I grew up in Portland then was in Seattle for 9 years and now here in SF. Very cute outfit too, and even better from the magic dump. :)

Lovely pictures, and the thought of a little tree climbing Clover-monkey was too cute for words.

How wonderful to hear that you and the duck are headed off to meet your good friend (and see that Magical Dump too)!

This has to be the best title for a post...
Did you try the french toast/lemon/sugar combo? I bet it's even better with a lemon picked from the backyard. Geeze Missa, how cool is that?! I keep forgetting you're in California.
