I discovered the Japanese website COTON a few months ago through Jenny Gordy's wonderful wiksten-made blog and have been finding it incredibly inspiring ever since.
I immediately fell in love with the styling... the muted color palette and the gorgeous layering of cotton, denim, and cozy knit pieces. The loose proportions are really interesting and beautiful and the boots... ooh, they pair many of the outfits with the sort of boots I dream of!
Though it wasn't intentional, I think the outfit I wore yesterday (photo links to w_r post for details) was subconciously inspired by the sorts of looks I've been admiring on the COTON site:
I wore the outfit to my niece Vida's chocolate fondue themed 12th birthday party at which I proceeded to stuff my face with strawberries and mini macaroons, madelines, ginger snaps, and peanut butter cookies dipped in the most delicious chocolate sauce... so good. There was even a chocolate fountain! I think we might go back over tonight to help finish off the leftovers ;)
I thrifted this handmade girls dress on my trip to Santa Cruz and gave it to Vida as a birthday gift. Isn't it absolutely precious?! She is one of the most stylish 12-year olds I've come across and, along with her mom, is an avid thrifter herself. She loved the dress and I was so glad that when she tried it on it was a perfect fit :)Thanks so much everyone for the enthusiastic response to the giveaway post! There's still a couple of days left if you haven't already entered. Also, thanks for all the trip well-wishes, Santa Cruz was awesome. Speaking of which, there are more thrift finds and many pictures were taken so I'll be putting together a post to share them soon :)

The Japanese always seem to do layering best. I am constantly looking at street style snaps.
im totally loving the japanese fashion styling as well. i adore how interesting they make greys and tans look. plus the shapes are so different than what you see in the stores here in the states. there are a few japanese sewing books ive had my eye on but am scared to purchase one because of the language barrier.

Her style is very typical for Japanese youth (when I am in Japan, I see girls where these things), but impeccable none the less!
