Lily and her purple plastic purse.
The obese Puss in Boots from Shrek Forever After.
The princess from Shelly Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre version of Puss in Boots.
The characters, while in a constant state of flux, remain a constant these days. At this point I'm starting to miss my daughter Clover, it's been awhile now since we've seen her. Not that I haven't enjoyed hanging out with these folks, as well as, Mary Poppins, Olivia the Pig, Goldilocks, Peter Rabbit's Mom, the list is ever growing, while this obsession of hers appears to have no end in sight.
Hmm, it's a wonder I haven't felt like putting much thought into dressing myself lately ;)
By the way, have you ever tried to explain to a determined three-year-old that putting things like say a floor lamp or a hat stand (nevermind the fact that we don't own either of these things) into the thrifted floral tote you gave her to use as her Mary Poppins carpet bag is just not going to happen? If so, apparently I could use some helpful tips on how to do so effectively.
I have been enjoying getting used to my new camera while capturing Clover's sartorial shenanigans though. I need to get a tripod sturdy enough to use it for self-timer shots. Assuming I will one day find the energy to get back to some sartorial shenanigans of my own, that is.
With the long run of spring-like weather we just had, our backyard hasn't been the muddy standing water swamp that it usually is this time of year. Yay! We've been letting the chickens out of their coop to roam free more. They are LOVING IT, and as you can see I've been following them around with the camera some too.
Now, lest you should think I caught Clover in a rare un-costumed moment, the red polka dot dress and black pants were remnants of the Minnie Mouse outfit she wore to pre-school that day. Her fuzzy white ears hat was involved with a red ribbon headband and a big black bow. Seriously, the fun never stops ;)
Sorry about the sparser than usual posting. Having trouble finding the time and energy for blog life lately. Bear with me, I'm sure I'll pull myself out of this slump soon enough!
I actually did manage to get a decent little outfit going the other day, involving a favorite new thrift find, and Clover and I went out for a lovely little hike. I even managed to take some pics. I'll get those posted soon. Until then, hope you're all well :)

oh missa! it is easy to see why you could never deny clover a costume, not to mention squeezing standing lamp in a carpet bag ;)she's JUST TOO CUTE! her little face poking out of her fuzzy mask in the top pic is so precious. she makes a way cuter lily than lily.
your photos are coming out gorgeous. i was loving the one of clover in red amongst those handsome fluffy chickens, and was indeed wondering if there are moments she goes about uncostumed...ha! NEVER!
you're doing good sweet lady. can't wait to see your pretty hike!
Hey, think of it this way; some day her West End stage carrier will afford you a comfortable retirement in the style of Tasha Tudor. From the looks of things you're half-way there already. Your chickens look so handsome compared to the scraggly ones we have. Which are wading up their knees in mud. Everything is more picturesque in California. Speaking of California, don't make me come there to get you back to bloggin 'cos you know I will.
career. that's what I means.
I love the Puss and Boots costume!
These photos are wonderful, and I'm especially struck by how beautiful your chickens are! Love that last photo of the black and white pair.
oh, her little mouse hat is too cute! i also love her little red polka dot dress with the little speckled hens. and the fairy tale theater inspiration - gawd i loved that series, so happy it's on netflix now!
i think it's so adorable! none of my children have been into dressing up...maybe this next one will :D that's so funny about the carpet bag! that was my favorite scene in mary poppins when i was little. oh yeah, the shelly duvall fairy tale theater! we got hansel and gretel (i think) from the library once, it was rad!
your hens are gorgeous! i can't wait for the day when i can have some of my own :D
Missa, Clover is so cool. Seriously. I know of no kid who does that, or who is that passionate about it. That is a seriously fierce sense of self and style for a three year old to have!
Isn't this weather seriously insane? Especially in light of what's happening on the East Coast?
Looking forward to your next post. In the meanwhile, revel in the fallow time...
Hey Missa! I LOVE Clover's cowgirl boots, they are the coolest! Oh...and as to convincing a 3 yo girl of anything...I too have yet to discover how to accomplish this. I hear ya on the dressing up part; sometimes life management just gets too busy! Hang in there!

Love her passion for costumes:> So Clover is either a very tiny person or you have rather large chickens. I have Silkies and they are small. However, I don't think my Lakenvelder is as large as your hens and she is a standadrd sized hen.
It isn't surprising that Clover enjoys a bit of dressing up! Really, the pictures of her and your hens made my day.
Sweet lil' Clover. You must be providing her the perfect childhood! You promote such creativity and allow for her to express herself! I love it!
Also... those chickens! I looked into a couple of breeds and think I'd like a dominique or two- good layers and hearty birds :D How many eggs do yours lay? They look so happy running free (my wacky Jack Russell wouldn't leave them alone, I'm afraid)... we'd have to build a little hen house :D
Puss in boots is too much! How gosh darn adorable. And, although your hens are quite attractive in their own right, it's that little red dress Clover wears that I am in love with. Wish I saw more little girls dressed this way.
oh god how precious is your daughter! she's adorable in or out of costume <3
i love that kid.
ahh, your blog is SO fantastic. LOVE, LOVE.
Oh my oh my!! These are so cute and I laughed so much at the obese cat outfit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would think to do that?!?!? haha lovely. I'm all for her imagination and dressing up. I want chickens so much.
oh my goodness-- she is too much :) it is so fun seeing her little imagination soar.
