Four Hens A-Laying

Saturday

Just a quickie outfit post from Saturday (old stuff, all second hand other than the boots, necklaces both from Milla :), and some fun news...

Yay, we've got eggs! The girls have been laying for about a week and a half now. We're currently averaging about 2 eggs a day between the four of them (apparently Hiccup was feeling camera shy that day), though today we found three!

Already plenty for our little family's egg consumption needs. Though still pretty small at this stage, the eggs are super yummy and it's exciting that we won't need to buy them anymore. Good news for friends and family too, it looks as though we'll even have some to share :)

I didn't buy or eat eggs for a year after having chickens. Why? They were so fresh and delicious I couldn't stomach the stale taste of store bought ones. And I loved watching the chickens, they were waaaay better than T.V.

yay! when my friend's hens laid their first egg, his reaction was: "did someone put an egg in the chicken coup? oh wait!" haha. love your beret!

Love the outfit--the chevron stripe skirt, the embroidered top, the boots! I love how the chickens appear to be admiring your skirt.

Big congrats on the eggs!

Yay, fresh eggs! I definitely miss being able to go out to the chickens and bring in some wonderfully fresh eggs. Just be careful if you use them in baking, because fresh eggs act differently than several-month-old store eggs in things like souffle (explosive, is more like it). If you keep your ladies toasty warm and happy all the time, they'll all be laying regularly soon enough. :)

Oh, they're so lovely! And Hiccup is a fabulous name for a hen.

Love the embroidery on your top. Gorgeous.

Egg Envy! You look so lovely and rural, in this garb, like a little (blond) lady from the foothills of the Andes gathering her eggs. That Hiccup is a Milla/Missa chicken for sure, camera-shy, prefers self-timer.

wow, that sweet little brown egg looks so pretty in front of your vibrant stripes! i LOVE the way you put together patterns, textures, and colors. you seriously have such a great eye for design. CONGRATULATIONS! i love that your little sweet hens are already supplying enough eggs for the whole fam plus more. crazy how nature works. it's very inspiring. darin and i really should have chickens; we've got a yard, we love animals, we LOVE fresh eggs so much compared to anything store bought.

only problem is wild animals. there was a bobcat in our backyard the other night! i know we could research and built them a good safe coop but i still worry. i have to gather all my cats around (4 of them) and do a headcount whenever some wild animals makes an appearance. last year a neighbor saw a BEAR lumber up our street!!!

beautiful post and such a perfect outfit you're rocking.

Very sweet outfit. yey for having eggs!!! That's awesome. I wish I could have chickens where I live, but not possible. Maybe one day when I have a house of my own rather than a duplex.

Hello ! I have just discovered your blog and do love it! Wow! I am in Melbourne, Australia and new to the blogging world. I just began my own blog this year and small thrifting, creating business at a local antique centre! Lovely to meet you xo
