A Few New Things, and A Small Confession

"Cuddle Knit"

On Halloween afternoon, I took a trip to the thrift store in a last minute attempt to help Lucas out with his lack-of-costume-dilemma. As you know, I was not successful in finding him the perfect costume; however, I WAS successful in finding myself the perfect vintage hooded sweater poncho!

Aptly labeled “Cuddle Knit,” it has been keeping me quite cozy. The vintage woven bag was one of last week’s finds from the same thrift store. (Poncho: $8, Bag: $3.50)

I wore this out to a party on Saturday night, for some friends who are expecting their first baby next month. A last hurrah/baby shower. It was such a lovely party. Unfortunately, I seem to have become lazy about taking pictures lately. Having Clover attached to my leg or whichever body part she happens to be clinging to at the time doesn't help either.

Other fun events that I failed to photo document since I last blogged include a very cool Day of the Dead celebration that Clover and I attended downtown with beautiful alters and amazing Oaxacan dancers in traditional attire with incredible feather headpieces. Also, Lucas’ birthday, which I felt kinda guilty about while catching up on Heather’s blog the other night. While reading, I discovered that our husbands share the same birthday, and she dedicated such a lovely post to hers.

Sorry Lucas. You know I love you more than any blog post could possibly convey, unless of course it was written by Heather 'cause her post was pretty darn sweet. I’m sure you enjoyed a break from my usual obsessive picture taking on your special day though ;)

I wore this same outfit on Sunday afternoon to take Clover to see her very first play. It was a children’s theater production of Hansel and Gretel and she LOVED it. To the point where she has become a little obsessed.

Days later, she is still pretending to be Gretel and insisting that everyone refer to her as Gretel, not Clover (I told you, once she gets into character…). She's been carrying the now tattered program (with photos of the actors in character) around with her everywhere.

She took it to pre-school on Monday and it came home in two pieces. We taped it back together and it went back with her again today. It was fun to pick her up and hear that her teachers indulged her enthusiasm for the story by having the kids act it out. Guess who got to be Gretel? :)

Alright, and now for the confession… my final new thing… the long-sleeved tunic tee in the above photo, the one where I'm hanging my head (in shame?)… was a recent purchase from... from... alright it was from TARGET! I bought it at TARGET!… oh the guilt... the guilt!

I wasn’t there to buy clothes for myself and normally their clothes don’t even tempt me, but in a moment of weakness it caught my eye with its nice pattern and colors and that tunic cut. Tunic top/skinny jeans/boots is a look that I find so easy and comfortable and I knew it would be perfect for that.

Next thing I know, I’m looking at the sale price of under ten dollars and the rest is history. Oh, and I figured while I was off the wagon, I might as well throw in a cheap purple floral tank top for layering as well. Sigh…

Yes, I’m being overly dramatic. There was a little bit of big-box guilt involved though. Ah well, I'm already getting a lot of wear out of it, and it is super comfy. Ok, back on the wagon.

Oh the Target guilt! I get such lovely lamps in thrift stores but the shades are always awful and I always end up buying them in Target, on the plus side we're supporting the economy ;-) Love your poncho!

i love target! don't feel guilty. moderation my friend. you don't need me to tell you how ah-mazing that poncho is. but i will. that is the coolest thing i've seen in a while. so perfect for fall, and it looks like it was made for you. clover is almost 3, right? it's a trying age, and they do get clingy, don't they? good thing she's so cute. i love fairy tales. oh, and yes, i would love that dress you mentioned in my comments. i don't think i have your email anymore...i'll have to go dig around. thanks for thinking of me. holy long winded comment, batman!

ha! first off, my own confession...darin doesn't even read my blog. i do it for myself, to remember what day it is (?!) but i am happy that he and lucas share a bday cause they both seem like rad mellow fun husbands. weird for scorpios, but supposedly that's all skewed by time anyway. now...your poncho was my dream find! i am reeeeaaaaly trying to narrow down thrift purchases but that one, and the bag for that matter, i could never pass up. and the tunic is lovely and looks so fresh and pretty and versatile. you gotta indulge the target whims from time to time. i have to avoid even going in there or i would seriously walk out with $100 worth of ...i don't know... holiday decorations and pillowcases and of course, skirts, tights...i could go on. i am lucky there is not one real close by.

clover just kills me. her gretel obsession is pretty much the best thing i've heard all day.

that poncho! love love love.

i absolutely hate target. the only bigger vortex that exists is ikea, i think. that said, i don't think any less of you and your tunic, and i would never have guessed that's where it came from. okay, but really i am still just thinking about your poncho...

happy [peaceful blog-photo-free] belted birthday to your hubby.

swap box in the mail next week, i swear it!

Missa,

I am entertained by your feelings of guilt. I also feel guilty when I buy clothing at places other than the thrift store (which is rare) but the tunic is super cute, and you don't backslide often, so I think you are in the clear. I dig the poncho big time too. Clover sounds like so much fun. I just took my niece to watch a performance of Annie. She loved to watch the kids sing, especially when they sang "Hard Knocks Life", but sometimes she was bored, and kept whispering to me "I like the movie."

That's so funny! You rock the recycled/ thrifted/ vintage goods so often that this hardly effects your second-hand footprint. It looks great!

I always loved the story of Hansel and Gretel. Target or not, it looks cute on you. Lovely!

haha!!! I'm all to familiar with that guilt of buying something brand new from Target or where ever. It's okay to be a little dramatic.

And Clover sounds like the cutest thing ever! She sounds like a lot of fun for her preschool class.

Oh my, that Poncho is perfect! It totally kicks my H&M Poncho's butt. I need to go thrifting tomorrow.

Target is the worst for impulse purchases! I don't typically go for the style of their clothes either, but I can't seem to walk out of that place without having spent $100 or more. I'll simply go for shipping supplies and come home with various other "needs", such a lipgloss, multiple pairs of lacy tights and whatever soft scarf they have at the front of the store placed there for no other reason then to tempt me!

I'm always tempted to go to Target but I just can't because I know I'll find something cute that I'll want to buy, or at leat almost every girl had something from target that I wish I had, this top is totally cute, I thought it was vintage! If you hadn;t said anything I would have never guessed!

aw, don't feel bad about buying one tunic from target! :) every once in a while a fully "new" purchase will slip in...it happens, esp at a place like target. we only go about once every 4 months or so (it's a bit of a drive for us), and i always spend a little too much there, although almost never on clothing...and i can't help but spend much more money at the amazing japanese variety store in the parking lot outside target, but i digress...! those are expensive days! :)

your poncho is so cool -- it reminds me of the one steven stills wore at woodstock. you are so lucky with the cheap finds! i love the bag too, of course. well done!

Wow, that definitely is THE perfect hooded, sweater poncho. It is sooooooooo cool! You wear it so well too. Love your boots! Target?! Gasp, teehee...leave the guilt at Target, that is one nice sweater! I have had the hardest time this year getting some replacements. Lost a gorgeous, copper colored cashmere made in Scotland and vintage and did I say GORGEOUS, ugh, I don't even have a photo of me in it either, anyway, it came home with a hole in it and the guy at the cleaners says he has no idea why or how. :<
I might pop into...........shhhhhhhhhtargetshhh
