Grunge Girl

90's Dress <3

Fall Dress on a Spring Day

Rain Rain...

Well, yesterday did not feel like Spring AT ALL. Cold, ominous gray clouds, rain (that last pic is my photoshoot getting rained out), even a hail storm! My silver lining however, was getting the chance to wear this super soft and cozy, oh-so-perfect-but-why-couldn‘t-I-have-found-you-like-6-months-ago?, dress that I picked up at the Salvation Army last week ($3.50!). It’s pretty much my dream 90’s dress with it’s dark wine-hued velvety floral pattern and pockets of joy. I think we’ll be spending lots of time together once Fall rolls around again.

I’m so glad I took those pics with the wisteria last weekend because it’s already starting to brown and wilt, ah… nature’s fleeting beauty ;) The muddy ground under the rose arbor is now carpeted with fresh peachy petals too (it’s gonna be a potpourri-fest under there in no time). But the sun is out today and even though it’s still chilly, they’re calling for a gorgeous weekend and just in time for flea market season to begin this Sunday, yay! Oh flea market, how I’ve missed you so!

Lets see, I finally thought to combine the beaded headband I thrifted long ago with my black felt 70’s hat from Milla and I think they make a wonderful pair. I don’t know why I didn’t think to do that sooner. It was actually the lovely long-thumbed lass Sissy Hankshaw though who inspired me to bust out the hat in the first place…

I re-watched the early 90’s Gus Van Sant flick Even Cowgirls Get the Blues the other day and while the acting is for the most part pretty bad, if you’re anything like me when it comes to 90’s nostalgia and particularly 90’s takes on the 70’s then you just might love it anyway. Give me some gorgeous cinematography and amazing styling and I can usually be persuaded to overlook whatever plot or acting flaws a movie may have. Just set aside any hopes of witnessing Oscar-worthy performances and embrace its campy charm!

that is like my dream dress to find while thrifting! and maybe it's sort of lucky that we're getting some late spring rains so you can sport it for a little while. i am kind of loving this last chance (maybe last?) to get all bundled up and cozy.

i've never seen Even Cowgirls Get the Blues but i did read the book, whoooo boy it is one of a kind! i LOVE gus van zandt though, so i'll have to check it out.

I haven't seen that movie, though I've heard of it, and mentally associate it with the 90s. A must do to add to my list...

Wow, I didn't know that book was made into a movie! I heart Tom Robbins.

Missa that dress is so awesome. Perfect, perfect cold weather dress. And yes, good call on combining the headband with the hat!

Oh and the boots are amazing.

I adore the way you've just described the fresh cool environment around you, man oh man such pretty writing Missa! And I totally agree with you about enjoying movies that way. That tree of yours with the white many flowers, what kind is it? It's devine! As is your wonderful velvety dress. Sure looks like alot of fun to wear. I bid you a lovely weekend and a fabulous time at the flea market :)
oh and thanks very much for the earlier comment on my blog :D

I think I need to check out the Salvo in your neck of the woods. The couple near me have been getting progressively more expensive with dresses running from 9.99 to 15.99. Yikes!

Oh your Uma Thurman is perfect! The dress is simply amazing and I love the headband on the hat.

You look so fuzzy and cozy and lovely, I just want to give you hug.
