Winter Florals

The Calm Before the Storm

w/ jacket

Yesterday, being sunny and relatively warm, seemed as fine a day as any for a good ol’ fashioned 100% thrifty floral mish-mash of an outfit. A series of storms are reportedly headed our way and beginning this weekend there is rain forcasted for about the next 10 days straight. So why not pretend it's spring before there's no denying that winter isn't going anywhere anytime soon!

Clover and I went for a lovely walk downtown stopping off at the bookstore. I flipped through the latest issue of Selvedge (silently oohing and ahhing over the photos in the article about this beautiful Swedish clothing line) while we hung out in the children’s section.

Clover got together a collection of stuffed animals, or “animal friends” as she calls them to gather around her while playing with the noisy books, the ones with buttons that result in obnoxious noises and/or songs, the ones that mysteriously disappear a week or so after your child receives one as a gift, kidding. Or am I?

Also, stopped off at the library to pick up this book. It's my next book club read. It's a new book club and unfortunately we all found our first book disappointing to say the least. Breath, Eyes, Memory looks promising though, not to mention timely with the heartbreaking reality that the people of Haiti are facing right now.

Bookclub! Lucky you....my bookclub has recently kind of disbanded. Hope you future-post on "Breath, Eyes, Memory"; it sounds really interesting (AND relevant given Haiti's latest tragedy)

You can sympathise with me over the next 10 days then. Rain, rain rain I love this mix. It's genius.

Oh, I LOVE your floral outfit!!! AND I really want a button down jean jacket. I wasn't lucky at the thrift stores, the ones I tried on were all too big :(

I LOVE this! All those florals look really great together and with the denim jacket on top.. ahh it's just perfection!

If Clover gets one of those annoying musical books again then you need to put a plaster (Band Aid) over the speaker - it's dulls the sound magnificently! And I'm speaking from experience here :) Love the floral mish mash too.

hahahaha i always wondered where those musical books went when i was a kid! for my friend's son's 1st birthday this Summer, Mike bought him a little fisher price drum. She said the most sarcastic "thank you" i've ever heard! hehehe.
your mismatched floral perfect-ness has put me right in the mindset of spring. I'm gonna go see if I can't thrift up some florals now!

Great floral mixing!

I hope you like Breath, Eyes, Memory. I read it last year and loved it.

Oooh Breath, Eyes, Memory looks fantastic...now if I could only find the time to read with a little one who never sleeps...

The outfit looks lovely :) I think that the floral mix is perfect.

I am waiting patiently for the storm. The newscasters are acting like Armageddon is coming, sigh. I am just glad that my poor little plants will get watered!

The bookclub sounds fun - great floral combo too!

It's been really rainy down here as well (mixed with the usual summer bushfires - quite an odd mix). Your mishmashing looks great, I can't think of many people who could pull it off but you do so with aplomb :-)

And Selvedge magazine looks very, very appealing...

I love your floral mix-mash! So pretty! Breath Eyes Memory is a wonderful book, Edwidge Danticat is my favorite contemporary author. Though I would recommend Farming of Bones or Brother, I'm Dying over it. They're all very moving, though very tragic. xo

I'm so glad you're reading Breath Eyes Memory. I just posted a little about Edwidge Danticat and her books over at my blog yesterday. Can't wait to hear how you like it. Also, your outfit has inspired my own floral going-out-to-dinner outfit for tonight! Cheers the rain! It has hit hard now here.

Did you see the floral winter photo spread in the current issue of Lucky? It was so rad and this outfit reminds so much of the loveliness they put together for that shoot!

Glad you ran into a good writer and book, I hope you can be moved, it looks great, I hope I pick it up sometime. On the other hand your outfit looks splendid and what I love most about the whole look is your hair for some reason, it flows so smoothly with the busy flowers you picked, quite awesome. Best of luck and happyness for you and clover and your hubby :)

hey Missa -- it's Emily -- Luis's friend in SF.

Love your flower ensemble. It reminds me of a pretty in pink outfit. But a 2010 version. I'm a frequent reader of your blog. And I do love it.

Thanks!

I'm in love with how you mixed these patterns. It's a risky move that I am always afraid to try!

You look so cute!
Love the floral skirt!
And yes the situation in Haiti is really heartbreaking. I guess you are the firts blogger who comments on this situation. I guess when we write about dreamy things such as fashion and style and live in a somewhat parallel world of beauty and then we face crude reality is such a dreary shock, that most of fashion bloggers don't even want to talk about these matters.

Bisous!

Have a great day..

OMG I absolutely adore your entire outfit!! I wish I could mix patterns and prints as well as you. And I am drooling over the bag!

I've heard good things about Edwige Danticat (sp?). I'm sure her book will be *much* better than John Updike. I swear I can't even get through his books.
