In the Kitchen

I took some outfit pics the other day, but the cable that I use for transferring pictures to the computer decided to stop working. So now they’re stuck on the camera until the replacement cable I ordered shows up :(

While I’m waiting though, I thought I’d share some images that have been inspiring me as our kitchen renovation gets closer and closer to completion.

Ah, open shelving, how I love thee!

Light neutral tones punctuated by soft pops of color... wood surfaces and natural earthy elements accented by an eclectic mix of vintage finds… I think that pretty well describes what I’m drawn to when it comes to kitchen décor, probably home décor in general as a matter of fact :)

Skipping through the blogosphere over recent months, I’ve noticed lots of posts about home decorating and renovation, even from bloggers who don’t regularly post on the topics.

There must be some sort of nesting bug going around or maybe I‘ve just been noticing these posts more because I‘ve been busy collecting inspiration (and some thrift finds too!) for my own home.

I probably spend almost as much time collecting home décor inspiration as I do fashion inspiration and I’d like to dedicate a good amount of time this Fall and Winter to getting our house in order they way I‘d like it to be.

We moved in just two weeks before Clover was born and then there was a new baby to focus on and funnily enough toddlers require a lot of focus too, and well, coming up quickly on two years later... let’s just say there is still plenty to be done before the ideas in my head of what I’d like my home to look like are fully realized. On that note, perhaps there will be more of these types of posts in the future!

The inspiration images that I post may or may not contain vintage or thrifted items, though I tend to be drawn to an eclectic flea market-style aesthetic so it’s probable that many of them do. My point being that I mostly like to post them because the images that inspire me and swirl around in my head (both consciously and subconsciously) are largely what guide my thrift eye.

In fact, just the other day I found the cutest vintage breadbox that would fit seamlessly into most of the above pictures. I’m planning to do a home finds post once I get the camera thing sorted out, so stay tuned for that, which will of course include the unveiling of my new breadbox!

Hope you don't have to wait too long for a cable!! these photos are great, I always feel so lost with home decorating that I sadly barely bother.... it's awful I know. I just try to keep it all neat and tidy and coordinated. :)

love the open shelving, worn wood, white and pops of color, crates. yum yum. I like a hint of industrial as well to add contrast and give it teeth. ;)

Of the pics you posted the shot of the pallet as plate rack jumped out at me as something i'd never thought of before. Very nice collection of inspiration.

I was telling a friend the other day how I can't wait "until our house (i.e. remodel) is done" to which he replied "It will never be done." And I think that is true. As long as we are alive, we will augment our surroundings in some way to suit our new needs, wants, moods, etc. The nest is very important.

Very lovely choices, Missa....you've got a great eye! I'm definitely saving that second pic for my own inspiration folder, and I've had a real love affair with that pic with the twinkle light in it since I saw it in Domino forever ago.

I am finally getting to where I feel like my own home is in a presentable condition, but the kitchen is still a complete eyesore. Maybe you've given me the little boost I need to get on it already!

awww definitely post more of this! I love interior decorating stuff, especially when it's inspired by the old stuff!
Those dark wood kitchen pictures are my personal faves! I love log cabin-y feels and dim kitchen lighting!

Definitely take some pictures when you have completed your plans!

I'll be anxious to see the finished product! I love the aesthetic you have going here - and I hate icky granite-infused modern kitchens - so I'm sure yours will be fab.

I couldn't agree more with your thrifty kitchen taste. It's cozy and sweet. Some of these pictures look as though they were fairy dwellings! :D haha

Gorgeous inspirational pics! I am a big fan of open shelving and displaying vintage kitchenalia too. I have a folder full of hundreds of ideas on my laptop desktop waiting for the day we buy/renovate/build our dream home. Have fun with your renovations!!!

Very homey and lived in. Like you can really cook and eat in a kitchen like that :)

I want to redo my kitchen sometime in a Tuscan fashion in golds and greens with the walls all antiqued.

I love the images you've put together here... so eclectic, pretty, happy and clean! So many house-oriented mags have pictures of gigantic industrial kitchens with granite counters and islands with barstools. Nice, but not necessarily my speed. I do love the pink wall vignette, and the chandeliered room with the card catalog!
