Jumpsuit! I wore it on Sunday morning to the flea market where I picked up this floppy sunhat for 5 bucks. When I tried it on, and I kid you not, the lady selling it exclaimed: “If Aphrodite were to rise up from the sea THAT is the hat she would be wearing!” I doubt it, but… SOLD.
I had been on the lookout for just such a hat and the fact that this one was the exact shade of pale lilac to match my floral print perfectly told me that it was meant to be. Besides, I had a hippie festival to go to that afternoon and had been feeling like something was missing. This added just the right amount of 70’s flair to my decidedly 90’s jumpsuit.
Ah, the Harmony Festival… it was a beautiful day and the scent of patchouli and burning sage (among other burning odors one might expect to encounter at such an event ;) were heavy in the air. We went with a group of friends and a good time was had by all.
I snuck off on my own while Clover napped in her stroller, to wander around and take some pictures. As you may have noticed, I was quite smitten with all the teepees.
I’ve decided to make it a summer project to put up a little makeshift one for Clover (alright, it’s for me but she’ll love it too) in our backyard using bamboo poles and thrifted vintage sheets. Something along the lines of this :)
There were more hippie wares and hippie style than you could shake a peace pipe at. I came across the girl in white in the “Goddess Grove” of all places and she struck me as especially lovely and ethereal with her hair all back lit. I love her tote and shoes too.
We staked out a spot on the lawn on the outskirts of Crafters Village right next to the Hula Hoop Garden. With Matisyahu doing his thing on the main stage in the background, some of us couldn’t help but partake in some good ol’ fashioned hippie hoopin:
Our friends Angelina and Christian hoopin it up hardcore.
Yours truly looking ridiculous trying to keep the world’s largest hula hoop going.
Clover never really got the hang of it but she looked damn cute trying!
I don’t know who this kid was but, as his pants would indicate, he was indeed on fire. I wish I had thought to get video of him. He was so good!
Historically, the Harmony Festival has been a weekend long celebration of all things hippie/eco/tribal/new age… yada yada yada. This year though, they decided to throw the Eco Cup Skate Competition into the mix complete with giant ramp, pro skaters, graffiti artists, and a stage featuring live music including performances by a couple of legendary punk bands Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, anyone? There was a bit of a Woodstock meets Warped Tour vibe going on, which turned out to be pretty awesome.
Getting to watch pro skaters and see 80’s hardcore rasta punk band Bad Brains (favorites from my skateboarding obsessed youth) was like taking a time machine straight back to high school… only with a toddler attached to my hip. The 16 year old me was in heaven and almost certainly thinking… cute kid but whoa, what’s with the jumpsuit?
Clover, earplugs firmly in place and a safe distance from the mosh pit... of course, got to experience her first punk show and while she was holding on to me, and kitty, pretty tight in the beginning, by the end she was smiling and shaking her little fist to the music… quite a sight!
They’re a bunch of old guys now, but here’s Bad Brains back in the day taking it down a notch with a live cover of The Beatles’ Day Tripper… gotta love those 80’s crowd shots :)

your family is adorable!
The hula hooping is so so awesome!! I love the pic of the kid with the fire pants, too. And that first pic of you and Clover is just adorable.
I think that outfit wa made for hula hooping. I want to go to the hippie fest, my town used to have a 'folk festival' but it was no where near as fun as this looks.
Wow! Looks like SO much fun! Hope you are having a great weekend!
That jumpsuit and hat look great on you. The festival looks like a lot of fun. I wish I could hula hoop!

This post reminds me of my college Folk Fest. It was always the best time of the year.
And I so want to make a teepee or two for my kids. I was actually saving images of them. Maybe I'll go and post them on small and heartfelt.
Oh the hula hoop memories. . . love the hat!
OMG what awesome photos! I'm looking at these and feel I can just step into that day! Really there's nothing quite like a joyous outdoor festival on a sunny day. Brings back wonderful memories of Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, the Whole Earth Festival in Davis and even our local music and art fests and Ren Fairs. Sigh. This has given me great inspiration to take my camera along next time I go to one of these kinds of events! ^__^
That jumpsuit looks PERFECT on you! Really really pretty.
Ah, I could never pull off a jumpsuit with long legs *sad*
SWEET! Hippies and skater punk? Sounds like a great combo. What a perfect venue to debut the jumpsuit! And how cute of Clover, raising her fist to the tunes.

you really rocked that floral jumpsuit well!
i'm so envious! that festival looked like an absolute blast! it looks like so much fun!
:)
I love hula hooping! I've been trying to convince my soon-to-be-new-flatmates that it would be a great idea to build a teepee in one of the biggest rooms! It would be so great to have one filled with cushions and fairy lights..
We built a teepee for Ava's bedroom and it has been the absolute best thing ever. I love catching her in there with a book.
What a rad looking Fair! Glad I found your blog!
