How does your garden grow?
I have somewhere along the line fallen into the habit of unintentionally coordinating Clover's outfits with mine or mine with hers depending on which of us is dressed first. We never totally match, our outfits are just sort of attuned to one another you could say. I swear I'm not doing it consciously though! Anywhoo, just an observation.
As I mentioned previously, I've been loving tiny floral prints. I dream of thrifting some vintage liberty goodness, something along these lines would be just lovely!
Until that happens I'm making do with this cute little Old Navy top I found at the Welfare League Thrift for 2 bucks. I do love the colors in the print and the sweet pintuck detailing.
When I saw the two flowers from Lauren's swap package sitting on my bedside table, I just knew they needed to join the outfit. They are the exact colors as the flowers in the print, so into the unruly hair* they went! Hey that rhymes :)
Speaking of flowers, how gorgeous is this sunflower that just burst open at the entrance to our little vegetable garden?
Said garden, consisting of a large raised bed with tomatoes, squash, peppers, and beans, and a small bed with more beans and various herbs. It's definitely my favorite spot in our yard right now.
I wish I could take credit for its beauty. While I do help with the choosing of plants and where to put them, Lucas does all the real work and definitely deserves the credit. He is the green thumb in this little family for sure and we're lucky to have him!
The summer squash plants have been growing like crazy. They are getting seriously huge and it's becoming quite obvious that soon we're going to have more scalloped and crook necked summer squash than we know what to do with!
Yesterday evening while Lucas was watering, I collected our first little harvest (see, I help). Aren't they pretty?! Recipe suggestions much appreciated :)
Some of the green beans are starting to produce as well. You can't see it but that's what Clover is munching on in this photo. From the looks of it we'll be enjoying those too!
*The outfit was from a few days ago, the unruly hair has since been cut, stay tuned...

aw your first photo is broken :/ but i saw it on flickr and i wanted to comment here anyway xD you look lovely, as usual! i'm having a hard time finding/making the perfect cutoffs, but you've renewed my lust for some!
mm, love veggie photos :D! as for the squash, we usually have a million of them from our garden too, so what we do is fry them up in slices with a flour/bread crumb coating and eat them with ketchup :9!
i swear she really does steal the show! as it should be though :)

Matching Mummy and daughter, V. Cute! Not being a girly girl I actually sometimes find myself matching my boys! We were all wearing black and grey stripes the other day. So lovely to have a veggie garden, wish I didn't have such a black thumb!
yay, pic fixed! okay i asked my mom and what she said is simply: dip in beaten eggs, dip in a bit of flour with cornmeal/salt + pepper, fry til golden brown and crispy, dip in ketchup! i'm sure you could come up with many yummy variations/seasonings though!

Cute cute! My boy loves the greenbeans and I'm sure he would love picking them off the vine, too. My girl wants nothing to do with vegetables and fruits.:(

Wow, what an amazing dress. I saw a shift style Liberty print on Etsy just the other day for less than 20. Couldn't believe it!
Love the florals! Here's a recipe we like for those zucchini that hide until HUGE. (My husband loves anything fried I think.)

I put the salted squash in a big colander and squeeze it by the handfuls. I exchanged chives for the scallions 'cause it was what was growing best. And added garlic & onion powders & oregano to the batter. We tend to eat it with highly seasoned, homemade cocktail sauce with no extra sprinkled salt. I think an asian-inspired sauce would be good too.

Hello! I love your blog! I've been reading it pretty religiously for two months now and am inspired to start my own soon.
You said you wanted ideas on cooking your summer squash. The squat little guys in the collander look like a type of pattypan. My husband and I were very into these last summer and snatched them up at every produce stand that had them.
He prepares them as follows:
Preheat your oven to about 375.
Slice up the pattypans into thin, potato chip like slices.
Throw slices in a ziplock bag with olive oil, sea saly, pepper and rosemary. Coat the slices by mushing them around awhile in the bag and then transfer them to a foil lined cookie sheet.
Bake 45-60 minutes until slightly golden.
You can sprinkle rosemary on top before baking for pretty. Halfway through cooking, you may want to flip the slices so both sides get a good roasting.
